An avid draftsman, Chalk-Levy's textiles, painterly scenes, and styrofoam sculptures all begin in the sketchbook. Having grown up in Manhattan, Chalk-Levy's passion for the European Sculpture and Decorative Arts wings of the Metropolitan Museum is rendered undeniably lucid as the sketches develop and evolve. Carefully considered lines and harmonious swashes of color arise from this initial frenetic sketch as the artworks are transformed and fixed to their final medium.
Chalk-Levy has been exhibited both in the United States and internationally, most recently a solo exhibition at Retramp gallery in Berlin and a group exhibition in Brooklyn. Spencer Chalk-Levy was born and raised in New York City and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelors in Fine Art from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, then continued studies from 2014-2020 at the Academy of Fine Art in Vienna. He currently lives and works in Vienna.
