TW Fine Art is pleased to present: Spencer Chalk-Levy: Heat of the Moment, a solo presentation of tapestries and sculptures. The art of Spencer Chalk-Levy reworks and restructures classical Western genres, styles of illustration, and cultural norms into an aesthetic all his own. That said, Spencer's passion for art history is ever-present; as such, the influence of 20th- century avant-garde movements including der Brücke and der Jugenstil is palpable. Tapping into the techniques and traditions explored by these groups along with establishing his own pictorial language, Chalk-Levy's works activate the viewer, fully immersing them into a world of the artist's design.

  • An avid draftsman, Chalk-Levy's textiles, painterly scenes, and styrofoam sculptures all begin in the sketchbook. Having grown up in Manhattan, Chalk-Levy's passion for the European Sculpture and Decorative Arts wings of the Metropolitan Museum is rendered undeniably lucid as the sketches develop and evolve. Carefully considered lines and harmonious swashes of color arise from this initial frenetic sketch as the artworks are transformed and fixed to their final medium.

Chalk-Levy has been exhibited both in the United States and internationally, most recently a solo exhibition at Retramp gallery in Berlin and a group exhibition in Brooklyn. Spencer Chalk-Levy was born and raised in New York City and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelors in Fine Art from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, then continued studies from 2014-2020 at the Academy of Fine Art in Vienna. He currently lives and works in Vienna.
